Alexander Graham Bell speaks of the drive that people need in order to accomplish big things. In regards to your health everything is a big thing. Everyone should always desire the most for themselves in regards to health. Sometimes people cannot pinpoint exactly what it is that makes them push forward. At the end of the day it is okay if you don’t understand exactly what makes you carry on as long as you summon some sort of motivation to make you carry on. Big achievers are notorious for having excellent work ethics. The Steve Jobs of the world have a tireless desire to always expand their horizons and always achieve bigger and greater things. A survivor of an injury has to come to terms with the fact that certain things are forever different, but there are things that one can forever do to continue improving. Once again I feel that survivors can help to motivate themselves by utilizing support networks. People of all different walks of life can find others who are walking in their shoes as they go through differing trials and tribulations of life. All things can be made better when you find your tribe of people who understand. The world is filled with people and I can assure you that there are always people who understand where you are in life and what you are looking to be supported in. Part of how I have made an existence for myself is to travel to various locations and always be a sounding board for residents and patients as they are preceding forward on their rehabilitation programs. I try to encourage patients and residents to always put his/her best foot forward. Most people want to be proactive in his/her recovery but they aren’t always sure how to go about it. I am a huge proponent for trying to find mentors and other survivors who have walked along the same path as you have. One has to never quit. If you are happy with where you are you going it is important to always try to reenergize your efforts to accomplish your goal. Sometimes the greatest evidence that a person can have is the things that they have done. People’s paper trail of things that they have done is often their strongest case for the enthusiasm that they are trying to accomplish. Often I encourage people who are not thrilled with their physical abilities at the current moment. I try and get them to not lose hope and to engage themselves in the social aspects that are available to them so that they don’t get negatively impacted by the environment that they are in. The individual is always in control of his/her experience. I try and encourage individuals to never stop until he/she is proud of the experience that they have made for themselves.
